Paint and Sip Date Night: Studio Class vs. a Private Retreat
The studio version is fun. The private version hits different.
Paint and sip has become one of the default date night activities in Atlanta. Painting with a Twist, local studios, pop-up events at breweries. They are everywhere, they are affordable, and they are fine. You drink wine, you paint a sunset, you laugh at each other's work, you go home.
We include a paint and sip setup in every Date Night package at The Retreat. But the experience is different from a studio class, and the difference is worth naming.
What changes in a private setting
In a studio, there are 20 to 40 people following an instructor. You are sitting next to strangers. The music is chosen for the room, not for you. The conversation is limited because the instructor is talking. It is a group activity that happens to involve your partner.
At The Retreat, the paint and sip is just you two at the kitchen island. The supplies are laid out. The wine is yours. The music is yours. You can follow a guided tutorial on the screen, or you can paint whatever you want. You can talk while you paint. You can take breaks to check the hot tub. You can paint for 30 minutes or two hours.
The activity is the same. The context changes everything.
Why couples like the private version
You actually talk. That is the biggest difference. In a studio class, you are listening to the instructor and painting. At The Retreat, you are facing each other, painting, and having the kind of conversation you do not have at home because there is always something else going on.
It also becomes one part of a full evening instead of the entire evening. Paint and sip at 7, hot tub at 8:30, fire pit at 9:30, movie at 10:30. The painting is one thread in a longer night.
How it works at The Retreat
Two canvases, two easels, acrylic paints, brushes, aprons, and a step-by-step tutorial card are set up at the kitchen island when you arrive. You can follow the guided painting or go freestyle. Most couples do a little of both. The finished canvases go home with you.
Movie night is included with every Date Night and Grand Gesture package. Paint and sip is available as an add-on for any stay.
